MSDCF is a non-profit organization created to assist in the restoration and preservation of historic Austin, Nevada. Once the second largest city in Nevada, Austin is
now a quiet, rustic community of less than 500 population seeking to retain its rich Nevada history and place in the lore of the "Old West". MSDCF seeks to complement the efforts of the Austin
Historical Society and the Nevada State Historical Society in maintaining, restoring, and preserving Austin sites listed in the National Register of Historic Places and other sites of lesser, but
nevertheless still historic interest.
Austin is rich in Western folklore and one of the last, if not the last, virtually untouched remnants of the Old West. Oscar Lewis' book "The Town That Died Laughing" underestimated the fortitude of
local residents, and the town lives on in its own majestic way.
Austin is located on the historic Lincoln Highway (U.S. Highway 50) in the geographical center of the State of Nevada.
