Finally....but Slowly....

The Lander County Commissioners approved the selection of Stantech, Inc. as Consultant for the Lonliest Highway Visitor's Center.  Work has commenced on finalizing a contract for their service.

Thus far, the project has taken far longer than originally projected.  Delays are attributed mainly to slow response time on the part of approving authorities.  Support of Austin residents has remained strong.

The Center will consist of picnic tables, benches, water fountains, restrooms, a presentation stage, and informational kiosks for travelers and visitors to Austin.  It will be build at the corner of Virginia and Main Streets in a location formerly occupied by the Hogan Hotel  (Austin Hotel) which burned in 1977.

Below are pictures of the site currently and an artist's conception of the facility.
